Mestysay

The group "Mestysay" from Gran Canary, composes its own music, bringing together elements of the Canary Islands and Latin American folklore. In 1999, they produced the song "Aquita" ("Water") to celebrate the traditional "Fiesta de la Rama" (The Festival to the Bough):

Bajan la cumbre en procesi
asustando a la oscuridad
velas de blanca bruma

le robaron a la luna
ramas de pino verde
oara bautizarel mar con un cantar.

(They march down the slope
scaring the darkness
candles of white fog

where stolen to the moon
gughs of green pine trees.
to baptize the sea with a song.

The compositions of these groups are fine examples of the Canary Islands tribute to the sea, and the way that tradition finds its place in the folklore of the islands.
