The special ingredient transforming the island song into o "song of the sea" thus giving it a distinctive quality, is the direct or indirect connection of the thematic material to the element of the sea, in every possible way and with all the consequences implied. Thus in the Aegean islands, especially the small and barren ones, most of the activities are oriented towards the sea .So the sea and their way, in their songs and their every day talking.
   The sea in various depictions, such as the islanders see it, imagine it or perceive it, constitutes for them a focal point and code of communication .It is an element of inspiration and consolation , a source of life but also a means for regulating life .An element unifying , but at the same time , separating people.
